LGRM – Grades 7–9 in the Swedish National Section

At LGRM, students in grades 7–9 follow the Swedish national curriculum (Lgr22) in an environment enriched by international perspectives. Located at our Molinsgatan campus, LGRM students share the school grounds with peers in the IB Middle Years Programme and the International High School, fostering cross-cultural collaboration and understanding.

English is introduced from the earliest years and remains a key focus throughout the programme. Our students study more English than in typical municipal schools, and several subjects are taught in English. From grade 6, students also begin studying an additional modern language.

How we teach

The team includes fully qualified teachers and special education teachers. We aim for a high teacher density, which is reflected in our excellent results and merit points. To encourage and create conditions for differentiation and increase motivation for learning, we have divided the classes into smaller groups in many of the school’s subjects.

In Swedish, English, and mathematics, we have divided the year groups into three groups. This results in teaching groups of approximately 20 students in these three subjects. In the following subjects, our students are taught in half-classes: music, home economics, art, crafts, and science lab. In addition to having more English on the schedule, we also teach some of the school’s subjects in English. ISGR has permission from the Swedish Schools Inspectorate to teach up to 50% in English. At LgrM, we teach the following subjects in English: English, crafts, sports and health, and cross-subject annual projects.

How we track progress

In the LgrM section, student progress is monitored in alignment with the Swedish national curriculum (Lgr22). Academic performance is assessed using the national grading scale (A–F) and is based on clearly defined knowledge requirements.

Teachers regularly use formative assessment methods, such as quizzes, class discussions, and feedback, to support ongoing learning and adjust instruction to students’ needs. In grade 9, students complete the national tests (nationella prov) in core subjects like Swedish, English, science, humanities, and mathematics, which serve as benchmarks for academic progress and grading consistency.

Students are encouraged to engage in self-assessment and goal-setting, helping them take responsibility for their own learning journey. Regular teacher feedback reinforces this process by making expectations and progress clear. Feedback on assessments is shared with students and parents using our academic platform, SchoolSoft.

Development talks each term further provide a comprehensive picture of student development. Beyond academics, ISGR emphasizes holistic student development. The school’s student health and support teams work to monitor and support students’ well-being, including social, emotional, and behavioral development.

How we build community

At ISGR, all students are seen and noticed. Year after year, our students state in our surveys that they are satisfied with the school and that they feel safe. Only in a safe and calm environment can knowledge flourish and therefore we work towards creating this type of learning environment. We are a community of curious, ambitious, and creative staff and students who foster a culture of learning with respect and openness. With us, you will meet the whole world in one building. With over 60 different nationalities, we encounter similarities and differences in our everyday lives. We learn together for the future.

How we develop as international learners

At our school, our students spend their daily time in a unique international environment, as ISGR hosts interactions between students and staff from different backgrounds every day. Students in MYP and LgrM have the opportunity to meet and work together in our Crossteam activities. They also meet in the Nordic Network sports tournament, where ISGR meets students from other Nordic international schools every year. Our students have the opportunity to participate in our international and language exchanges and collaborations with schools in other countries. We currently have a collaboration with a school in Uganda and language exchanges with schools in France, Germany, and Spain.
