This autumn, a group of Year 9 students from our LgrM Spanish programme had the opportunity to travel to Spain as part of a new exchange partnership with IÉS La Melva in Elda, just outside Alicante. Together, we have launched a cultural and language exchange for ISGR students studying Spanish, as well as for Spanish students who want to deepen their English skills and learn more about Swedish culture.
The purpose of the exchange is to strengthen students’ Spanish language abilities, build cross-cultural understanding, and encourage curiosity about both countries’ minority languages and cultural contexts.
The exchange takes place at both schools – at IÉS La Melva in Spain and at ISGR in Sweden – giving students the chance to experience daily life, learning environments, and local culture in both countries.
In addition to the exchange visits, students take part in learning activities focused on:
This exchange is an exciting part of our commitment to fostering global citizenship, language development, and meaningful cultural experiences for our students.
“I am so grateful that I had the chance to go but will never forget this!!!”
“If you get a chance to be part of an exchange trip, take it!”
“It's incredibly fun to meet new people and very rewarding. Experiencing another culture and getting as close to it as you do when you live with family is very interesting and educational.”
“You make friends for life, you get to experience someone else's life and it makes you realize that there is so much more to do and experience than just being in little Sweden.”
“You gain new experiences with other cultures and you get a better insight into what everyday life might look like for someone else around the world.”
“It is an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life and you learn to be social and take your own responsibility.”
“There will be some Spaniards coming to visit us this winter.”
