High Quality Learning and Teaching at ISGR

The ISGR community commits to making learning meaningful, equitable, and globally relevant. Our goal is to develop confident, curious, caring and connected learners. High quality learning and teaching is achieved through a set of principles applied across the school, supported by experienced instruction.

1. Supportive learning environment

Holistic wellbeing: We provide a positive, respectful, and nurturing community where students thrive. This includes
continuous focus on social-emotional learning and conflict resolution.

Safe learning environment: Staff and students establish a safe learning environment and consistently maintain clear
expectations for behavior in all parts of the school.

2. Access for all learners

Clear expectations: Teachers set clear learning expectations for every lesson and unit, ensuring students know what they are expected to learn and why.

Engaged learning: Teachers use lesson design to make learning engaging and to help students set goals, reflect on their
learning, and take action.

Evidence based teaching: Teachers use continuous reflection and evidence based teaching to inform future planning and provide regular, timely feedback on student progress.

Diverse Instruction: Teachers engage in collaborative planning and use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the
diverse needs and varied cultural backgrounds of every student.

3. Multilingualism and diversity

Equal Value: Recognizing the value of our multilingual community, we ensure that language development has a vital role in communication, instruction and school life.

Inclusion & Belonging: We treat everyone fairly and with respect. We work together to make an inclusive place where
every person feels important.

4. Skills for lifelong learning

Essential skills: Learning goes beyond gaining knowledge to focus on building understanding of concepts, developing
essential skills, and growing as a person.

Relevant Connections: We encourage curiosity and the ability to make connections between subjects and apply learning to real-world challenges and students' own lives, preparing them as active, global citizens.

5. Empowering student agency

Resilience: Students are self-reliant and responsible for their learning choices, developing strong self-management and
organizational skills.

Active Decision-Makers: Students are encouraged to use their voice and choice in the learning process, shaping how they
learn and how they demonstrate their understanding within clear boundaries.

Purposeful: Students use their learning to take action and make a positive impact on their community and the world.
