The International Baccalaureate® Middle Years Programme (MYP) at ISGR is designed for students aged 11–16 (MYP 1–5). It builds a bridge between the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and further academic studies, offering a balanced education that challenges students to grow intellectually, personally, and socially.
Learning in the MYP is structured through eight subject groups, taught through a concept- and inquiry-driven approach. At ISGR, we support each student’s development as a reflective, principled, and globally minded learner—equipped with the tools to thrive in an ever-changing world.
“Empathy, compassion and understanding underpin our approach to teaching and learning…” – Patrick MacAulay (MYP Principal)

Our teaching approach combines conceptual learning with inquiry-based instruction. This means students don’t just learn facts—they explore ideas, ask questions, and develop deep understanding. Subjects include Language and Literature, Modern Languages, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Design, Arts, Sciences, and Physical & Health Education. Each area challenges students to apply their learning in meaningful and creative ways.
We use a range of assessments designed to support learning and reflect individual growth. Students are assessed through:
Formative assessments during lessons to guide and adjust instruction.
Summative assessments such as projects, presentations, investigations, and written work at the end of each unit.
Each subject uses clearly defined IB criteria to evaluate progress. Students and parents stay informed through our Toddle platform, and development talks are held each term to reflect on goals and growth.
In the MYP, the Arts help your child explore and express themselves through creating, performing, and presenting. This exciting process builds both new and existing skills in Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. Through art, students learn to share their feelings, experiences, and ideas, which also helps them appreciate different viewpoints.
MYP Design teaches your child to solve problems using practical and creative thinking. Students learn to see how design is everywhere, both historically and today, and understand its impact. A key part of MYP Design is teaching kids to make responsible and ethical choices throughout the entire design process, not just focusing on the final product. From MYP1 to MYP5, students dive into design through hands-on projects, using all sorts of practical and digital tools.
This subject helps your child become a global citizen by encouraging respect and understanding of our interconnected world. Students develop important skills to explore the many historical, current, geographical, political, social, economic, religious, and cultural factors that shape individuals, societies, and our environment.
Developing proficiency in Language and Literature is fundamental for students to reach their full potential in all MYP subjects. By engaging with different stories and texts, students gain a deeper understanding of differing perspectives, while reflecting on their own identities and relationships
MYP Mathematics takes a balanced approach, focusing on both hands-on learning and real-world application. This helps students build strong problem-solving skills they can use beyond the classroom. The curriculum covers a vertically articulated progression of content under the MYP mathematics framebook which encompasses number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability. This ensures students are exposed to diverse concepts in mathematics and prepares them for future studies.
In MYP Modern Languages, students go on a language journey, learning Swedish and either French or Spanish. The program is carefully designed to help them become skilled in grammar, vocabulary, and cultural understanding, allowing them to progress smoothly from beginner to advanced levels of communication.
The aim of ISGR Physical Education programme is to enable students to gain the knowledge, skills and values towards leading a healthy and active lifestyle. The PHE programme focuses on physical movement and competency and through physical activities, both working individually and cooperatively, students can derive satisfaction and pleasure and use movement to develop as a whole person.
The MYP Sciences program encourages a curious approach to understanding the natural world. Students learn to explore complex topics through careful research, observation, and experiments, both on their own and with others. By looking at how science applies to the real world, students gain important insights into the connections and sometimes tensions between scientific progress and things like morality, ethics, culture, economics, politics, and the environment.
We believe that students thrive in a caring, inclusive, and respectful environment. Our teachers and staff foster strong relationships and prioritize student well-being. Empathy, collaboration, and communication are at the heart of our classroom culture.
Advisory sessions, student-led initiatives, and community projects all contribute to a supportive and engaging school experience.
With over 60 nationalities represented at ISGR, international-mindedness is woven into daily life. Students work across cultures, languages, and perspectives—developing skills to understand and navigate our interconnected world.
We are a community of listeners, thinkers, and risk-takers. Through service, reflection, and intercultural events, our students grow as active, compassionate global citizens.
